What is the Apprenticeship Levy?

In May 2017 the way the government funds Apprenticeships in England is changing. Some employers will be required to contribute to a new Apprenticeship Levy and there will be changes to the funding for Apprenticeship training for all employers.
The levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year to invest in Apprenticeships. It will be paid at a rate of 0.5% of an employer’s wage bill and will be paid through Pay As You Earn (PAYE) from April 2017. Continue reading “What is the Apprenticeship Levy?”

50th Celebration

As part of our 50th Anniversary year, on 9th December STEGTA held a celebration event at our office which was attended by people who have had an involvement in STEGTA’s history.  This included training partners, Board Members and STEGTA staff who have now retired.

This was a great way to end the year and thanks to all who came to help us celebrate!

EEF Higher Apprentice Awards

Congratulations to Jordan Brophy of Mettler Toledo on winning the North West regional Higher Apprentice Award! Both Jordan Brophy and Daniel Eaton achieved their Level 3 Apprenticeships in September 2016 and were shortlisted for the award earlier this year.

“I am very proud that Jordan has continued to progress since completing his training with Stegta, and is set to achieve great things! Fingers crossed he has done well with his final presentation to the panel which will determine if he will become the overall national winner of the award.”
– Andrea Roberts, STEGTA Training Officer.

“We were proud to have Jordan Brophy announced as the North West regional winner of the Higher Apprentice award recently held at the AJ Bell stadium. Also that Daniel Eaton had been shortlisted for the same award! This was two of our four apprentices that were shortlisted. I also know that the North West had more applicants than any other region in the UK. So this was a fantastic achievement and a testament to the two guys!

This award was developed for Higher level apprentices in engineering disciplines who have done the most to seize the training and development opportunities presented to them during the final year of their Apprenticeship programme, and who have made significant contribution to support the business activities of their employer.

The winners from all six regions now face a panel interview and give a presentation on why they should be voted the national winner this is scheduled for 15th November in London.
The overall national winner will be announced at the EEF National Gala Dinner on 31 January 2017 again in London.”

– Tony Hickson, Human Resources Manager
