The buildings take on many forms from newly built facilities to the refurbishment of historic premises for every sector of industry such as defence, health, finance, education, research, etc. On a wider note, the apprentice will also be dealing with issues such as the environment, sustainability and acoustics and will eventually specialise in the mechanical or electrical discipline. 

In addition, the apprentice will attend College for one day a week during term time to study for an Advanced Apprenticeship in Building Services Engineering. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of simple calculations

The Rail engineering design technician apprenticeships will run over a two to three year period during which you will undertake a supervised programme of training and college day release which leads to Technician Membership of the relevant professional institution. There is the opportunity to go onto further study to enable you to be qualified to degree level and achieve the Chartered Engineer status.

You will work towards the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering including Functional Skills Level 2/3 in English and Maths.   • Site engineering – Responsibility for checking the progress of particular technical aspects of the construction work

Apprentices will receive training to carry out the following activities in all areas of the Paper Mill:

– Comply with Safety, Quality and Environment regulations and Company policy.

– Ensure good housekeeping in all production areas.

– Participate in the investigation of events that occur, identifying opportunities for improvements in installations/procedures and putting into practice the actions that are defined.

– Form part of the site emergency response team.

– Carry out daily Total Preventative Maintenance checks to ensure associated plant is running to optimum specification and any defects/issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner.

– Support the Operator Level 1 in performing the production programme in accordance with production targets, complying the quality specification with the greatest overall efficiency possible

– Carry out plant cleaning and maintenance work during scheduled monthly, annual or general downtimes in line with the instructions of the Shift Manager

*Please note that upon completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship, the successful candidate would then be expected to progress onto a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Salary will increase during the Apprenticeship in line with the achievement of training goals to £30,000 on completion of the Level 3 Apprenticeship which is expected to take 3-4 years.

  • Year 1 –  £12k starting salary
