STEGTA Apprentices Win ICE Scholarship!

Congratulations to STEGTA apprentices, Liam Dix, Robbie Harrison and James Patterson of Mott MacDonald (pictured above with Jeff Lawrenson of the ICE) on winning the ICE Quest Technician Scholarship 2017! The QUEST scholarships are a sign of excellence, recognising young people for their abilities and potential, as well as receiving financial support of up to £1500.

We spoke to our apprentices after the announcement!

Liam Dix said: “If you are a student member of the ICE you will get updates on situations like applying for scholarships, events and seminars that the ICE deliver. On the application itself you have to answer the questions relating to your training and development, identifying your most recent qualifications. The panel of judges, who look at your application, decide if you are a suitable candidate for the award then select you to go for an interview. Two reviewers will then decide who the award winners will be.”

Robbie Harrison said: “It is great feeling to be awarded the ICE Quest Scholarship as I have been recognised by a professional institution for my commitment to the industry. My company are also very proud of the achievement and look forward to my future and how I will progress.”

James Patterson said: “I will be spending my scholarship money (£1500) on a commercial drone license with will mean I can use my drone for commercial work. This spans a wide range of work including aerial surveying, 3D modelling and aerial photography.”

The Apprentices, STEGTA Training Officer Malcolm Hankey said:

“I am delighted to hear that three STEGTA apprentices have been selected for the ICE Quest Technician scholarship, it is testament to the hard work and dedication of Liam, Rob and James that they have been recognised and rewarded by their professional institution. “
