As a Building Services Technician Apprentice you will work with a team of engineers and other professionals in the construction industry to design various installations found in buildings. The buildings take on many forms from newly built facilities to the refurbishment of historic premises for every sector of industry such as defence, health, finance, education, research, etc.

The role will involve the assistance of Engineers in the preparation of drawings and designs as well as the management and control of documents and projects. We have an excellent opportunity to join our Apprenticeship Scheme studying Engineering. These positions will incorporate either Maintenance Engineering or Mechanical Engineering skills required to carry out tasks within the Braunstone Plant, and for your potential career in industry with experience on high speed automated production lines and team working in a fast paced precision manufacturing environment. The technical training part of this Apprenticeship is likely to take place at a training location in Coventry and therefore candidates need to be able to attend that training on time each day for around the first 6 -9 months and then on a day-release basis after that. Apprentices are expected to make their own travel arrangements to and from training and work.

As an Apprentice you will follow a formal structured training programme gaining Level 3 qualifications along with learning how to work safely, maintain good housekeeping and good engineering practices, Other key elements of the tasks you will be involved in as part of your training will include some or all of the following areas:

  • Turning, milling, welding and fabrication.
  • Plant maintenance systems, adherence to PPM schedules and use of thermal and vibration analysis tools.
  • Working as part of a team in the workshop, repairing electro mechanical equipment, motors, gearboxes and pumps.
  • Learning how to use mechanical fault finding techniques.
  • Complete build, repair and devise preventative maintenance solutions for mechanical systems, from simple machines complex machine operating systems.
  • Knowledge of machinery safety and guarding and their implementation.
  • Design and building one-off repair solutions and developing process equipment improvements and implementing across multiple machines.

The first year salary will be £17,215 with the potential to increase to £35,213 (today’s rates) in year 4 when working continental shifts. There is a potential of a full time position with a salary scope of £35,804 – £44,016 dependant on vacant positions at the time your apprenticeship comes to an end.
