As a Building Services Technician Apprentice you will work with a team of engineers and other professionals in the construction industry to design various installations found in buildings. The role will involve the assistance of Engineers in the preparation of drawings and designs as well as the management and control of documents and projects. There’s no such thing as a typical day at WSP. Your role will be varied and your learning will be fast paced. One day can be completely different to the next. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills using specialist software suited to the area of the business you are working in, such as AutoCAD and Revit.

Our Rail Apprentices support senior colleagues in their design tasks and help with the successful delivery of major rail engineering design schemes. They receive on-the-job engineering design experience giving them the foundations to develop their career within a consultancy. The academic qualification will be supplemented with their work in the team, ensuring they gain a working knowledge of industry standard software. Day to day our apprentices might be involved with data inputting, report writing, gauging assessments and drawing production.

Where practical, you’ll get the opportunity to visit site and see the projects you’ve been working on, coming to life.

Vacancy Description:
The main activities will be as follows:

  • MIG, TIG and stick welding
  • Medium and light fabrication including sheet metal work
  • Use of guillotine, iron worker, saw, drills, and press
  • Using oxy propane and plasma cutting equipment
  • Use of hand tools & power tools, including grinders, polishers, etc.
  • Working from drawings and sketches
  • Marking out and measuring
  • Shot Blast and painting
  • On-site working
  • The above processes will be predominantly in mild steel, and sometimes in stainless steel and aluminium.
