STEGTA Excellence Award 19 – HECTOR SHARP

We would like to Congratulate Hector who is employed by ARUP in London, as he has been awarded a STEGTA Excellence Award for Outstanding Performance in Building Services Engineering.
We asked Hector how he felt about winning the award.

“I was very happy to be awarded a STEGTA Excellence Award for Building Services Engineering.

I have always had an interest in engineering particularly in the construction industry. My fascination with understanding how systems function and communicate with each other lead me to pursue a career in building services engineering.

I am very grateful for the support I have received throughout my Apprenticeship. From project leads helping me understand the ambitions of the project being completed, to the engineers helping me understand the principles of the services designs within the project as well as technicians who help me understand how these designs can be portrayed in the clearest and most effective way. The support I have received from Arup has been fantastic.

The support provided by STEGTA has also been invaluable when working towards completing my NVQ. Regular communication with my training officer Saad Dawood has enabled me to receive constructive feedback allowing me to progress throughout every stage of the qualification.

From my base at Arup’s London office, I have had the chance to work on a wide range of exciting projects both across the UK and throughout the world. I relish the opportunity to work on projects which I am able to follow from early stages as they develop to later stages of detailed design. Such complex buildings make the modelling and coordination work I do as a technician a challenge, although when the project is completed and issued to the client this amounts in a huge sense of pride in what I have helped the team accomplish.

Following the completion of the Level 3 Apprenticehip, I intend to earn an EngTech with CIBSE. I then plan to progress and complete a Level Six Degree Apprenticeship at London South Bank University”.

Hector’s Training Officer – Saad Dawood commented: “ Hector is a great example of an outstanding Apprentice. He strives to enhance his knowledge and skills in the work place and at College and his hard work has resulted in him achieving fantastic results. Hector has great communication skills and is able to build relationships with colleagues and clients and works well within a team. His work is always of a high standard and he is either on or ahead of target. It’s been a pleasure supporting Hector throughout his Apprenticeship and I’m sure he has a bright future ahead of him!”
