STEGTA Excellence Award 19 – MATTHEW GILLIVER

We would like to Congratulate Matthew who is employed by ATKINS in Birmingham, as he has been awarded a STEGTA Excellence Award for Outstanding Performance in Civil Engineering.

We asked Matthew how he felt about winning the award.

“I was very happy to be awarded a STEGTA Excellence Award for Building Services Engineering.

I chose a career in engineering due to my interest in STEM subjects in school. I pursued opportunities of work experience related to engineering and decided that engineering was something I’d like to get more involved in. I like how I can follow process, innovate where due, and have real effects on the outcomes of our work.

My training officer Saad has provided me with all the support that I need, offering guidance and supporting me with my NVQ. My workplace mentor has also been fundamental to my progress.

Working on HS2 has been a great experience. We’ve faced issues that we haven’t before, and myself and the team have overcome them all to deliver an outstanding piece of work.

After the completion of my Level 3 Apprenticeship, I plan on working towards an HNC while attaining my EngTech. Beyond that hopefully I will attend university, but that’s a while a way yet. The future looks bright”.

Matthew Training Officer – Saad Dawood commented: “Matthew has been building on his strengths as part of his Apprenticeship and is continuously developing his own knowledge and skills. He actively puts himself forward to shadow, attend sites, observe in meetings, and he also has good course and event attendance.

Matthew has the ability to meet deadlines and is always either on or ahead of targets and has great team working skills.

Matthew has demonstrated outstanding performance throughout his Apprenticeship with strong progress, great results and excellent attendance at College”.
