Welcome to the first edition of our Newsletter

Welcome to the first edition of the new STEGTA Newsletter! Salford and Trafford Engineering Group Training Association Ltd (STEGTA) was established in 1966 to act as the central training department for a small number of engineering companies in the Salford area. Since 1966 we have grown substantially and now attend to the training needs of hundreds of companies throughout the UK.

We will be updating you every 3 months with our latest news and developments. In this edition, we are pleased to share the results of our recent Ofsted inspection as well as giving you a chance to find out more about how we are promoting Engineering and Construction Apprenticeships to young people in schools plus Apprentice Case Studies and how the STEGTA Shiners raised money for Cancer Research!

APPRENTICE CASE STUDIES

Luke Caruana at Airline Services Ltd

stegta shiners

Luke has been employed at Airline Services Ltd since August 2012 and is currently undertaking a BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering Level 3. Pictured left, Luke with his Manager Adrian Evans, Head of Tooling and Injection Moulding

I was first introduced to Engineering when I was in Year 10 whilst I was a student at Wellacre Academy in Flixton. I knew that I wanted a career which would involve practical, hands on work. I completed a GCSE in Engineering where I was able to produce drawings, use Autocad software and begin using the machines. I then continued on to Sixth Form at Wellacre and completed a PEO (Performing Engineering Operations) Level 2 qualification.

STEGTA SPONSORSHIP

Wellacre Academy Football Team

Movember

Coinciding with the partnership we have with Wellacre Technology School, STEGTA are proud to announce the sponsorship of the Wellacre Academy Sixth Form football team. They have been entered in to the British Colleges Elite League, region 5 and are currently in 6th place in the league. This is their first year competing and the majority of the squad are 17 year olds playing against Under 21's.

Individually, some of the players have also achieved representative honours, 4 boys selected to represent Greater Manchester County Under 18's Nick Haughton, Mark Derbyshire, Lincoln Gidley and David Brown. Three of those boys were selected for England trials with Nick Haughton making it to the final trial of 18 players in February 2013.

The future is looking bright for the squad and they are busy recruiting players/students for next year. We wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season!
